We can quite safely say that a listing of a house going on sale in Seattle won’t really matter, like never. But then this three-bedroom house on Seattle’s Northeast 28th Street in West Bellevue is not just ‘another house’. This is the house where the world’s richest man Jeff Bezos started Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce portal. More like in the garage of the house but it’s the same location. And now this house went up for sale for a cool $1.5 million dollars (roughly Rs 10.6 crore).
According to a report by Seattle Times, anyone looking to buy the house will require to fork out $300,000 as down payment. The official listing of the house is marketing the house as “the birth place of Amazon”. It also states that this is a chance to buy a “piece of history”.
As for the house, the house was originally built in 1954 and since then has been remodelled quite a lot. In fact, after Bezos moved out of the house – for far greener pastures – the house was remodelled again. The only thing that is remnant from Bezos’ days is a huge mailbox outside the house.
In fact the house has been sold multiple times after Bezos moved out. The Seattle Times report further reveals that in 1998 – the year Bezos moved out – the value of the house was close to $182,000. In 2009, the house was sold again for $620,000.
What’s even more interesting is that Bezos actually never himself owned the place. He used to rent out the place when he was starting out. Amazon was started from here but only for a few months did it operate out of this house’s garage. Still, it’s a great marketing trick to sell a house which is now stands in one of the most poshest neighbourhood of Seattle.
